Saturday afternoon 21st

Well today is different we went to breakfast and just as we were leaving my grand kid David showed up with his parents so we all went to breakfast together of course I still ordered the same thing only added a large glass of orange juice which was very cold and wonderful with no problem with my lips numbing with needles good day.  My little David is so much fun and it was good to see his parents also.  And then Brie and Calvin showed up with their parents and Aunt Laurel so we stayed for lunch with them so what a nice day.  The kids wondered why I didn't tell more story's about when I was a little kid sense I was so old.

So I broke into a story about when I was 15 my parents gave me my first car which I couldn't drive on the road yet so I made a track in the back field and after the second day I learned about driving fast and rolling the car I think a vow was made never to give me another car also some other words were shared with me when Dad got home.  But the story was not about that but after I got the car turned back up I decided that it needed a valve job.  In reality I just wanted to see what the inside of the engine looked like.  The 1947 Chev. had that old reliable 6 cylinder with a lot of room around everything you could almost stand in the engine compartment when you worked on it.  I was working with my good friend Doug Perkins that day and we got the cylinder head removed as an aside the reason the 1947 Chevrolet engine always had grease all over the spark plug side was a pan that went from the bottom of the block all the way to the top of the head they always leaked.  Well Doug and I were looking at all the mess and I knew the best way to get rid of nasty grease was gas, and the gas line was right over the engine so Doug was to move the gas line back and forth and I was going to crank over the engine to get more gas.  I know what you are thinking but this worked very well because the car had a foot starter peedle but I wondered how much gas I had in the tank and when I turned the key on and all the spark plug wires that were disconnected sparked and all I could see under the hood was a flaming infernal I remember to this day an incredible flurry of activity.  The first rule of gas infernos is water will not put it out which I know for certain because all it did was spread the flame all through the engine compartment.  With water failing I rushed into the kitchen which was only 4 feet away since the car was only 4 feet from the house for power.  I wasn't sure what I was looking for but I was searching for something and happened to see a box of baking soda and remembered seeing on TV that it would put out a grease fire and out of desperation raced back to the infernal and the baking soda put out the fire instantly.  Doug's eyebrows and the front of his Pompadour was singed also he didn't speak to me for a few weeks. The reason I had thought about this story was one of my new customers that has a fire putter outer.  Also aunt Laural was there and I could not remember mentioning the flame 4 foot from the house to Mom and dad and surprisingly she didn't remember the incident at all so maybe I must have forgot mentioning it to them fortunately there was not any evidence when they got home.

Sorry for the rambling story but that is an old guys prerogative.  May God continue to Bless everyone out there and please keep Sharen and myself in your prayers.

  2. I am so happy to see one of your fabulous life stories in print. Anton has a friend that envies even Anton's life story so far because for all the funny unusual events. It is a gift to have survived the perilous years of high school but a greater gift to be a good teller of the tales. All of us have special lives, not many get to chance to appreciate it enough to bring entertainment to others..thank you for sharing. Your family and friends are the richer for it.
